Berlin’s Golden Twenties, wild Eighties, and the period just before the Wall fell – be immersed in the city’s film history with augmented reality. Actress Almila Bagriacik guides you to original film locations in Berlin!

The app lets you look behind the scenes of film productions in the locations where they were filmed and listen to film-makers talking about their work. Watch scenes in the actual places they were shot and discover special features of Berlins film sets. Use the app’s camera filters and make your own videos with an Eighties’ or silent film era look.

The “On Set — Film in Berlin” app is currently available at three selected locations in Berlin.

POTSDAMER PLATZ

See in fast motion how the square has changed! The film “Berlin. Symphony of a Great City” pulls you into the chaotic traffic of the 1920s. You can witness divided Berlin with Wim Wenders’ “Der Himmel über Berlin” (“Wings of Desire”) and become an angel yourself. Find yourself on the set of “Metropolis” and look at the storyboard of the spy series “Berlin Station” at the location where it was filmed.

ALEXANDERPLATZ

Take a photo of yourself against the backdrop of “Babylon Berlin”! Production designer Uli Hanisch talks about the challenges of shooting here on Alexanderplatz. Record your own “Good Bye, Lenin!” news program and let lead actor Matthias Freihof take you back to the premiere night of “Coming Out”.

KREUZBERG 36

Travel back to the punk-rock era of the legendary SO36 club and make a film using the Super-8 look of the Eighties! Visit the setting of “Herr Lehmann” (“Berlin Blues”) with Christian Ulmen in 1989 shortly before the Wall fell. Find out from Almila Bagriacik, the lead actress in the film “Nur eine Frau” (“A Regular Woman”), how Aynur’s life inspired her.
